Under 18? You still have rights in court

Just because you’re under 18 doesn’t mean you don’t have rights.

You have a lot of rights

You have the right to be heard, either through an attorney, interviews, or as a witness.

You have the right to a supportive, safe space in court, at home, and at school.

You have the right to privacy with sealed court records.

You have the right to a supportive, trusted adult of your choice.

You have the right to a timely decision from the court and, potentially, a jury.

You have the right to ask questions of your attorney, Victim Advocate, and the Court.

You have the right to a safe, happy childhood — this is your life, so let’s live it!

You have the right not to be asked rude, mean, or harmful questions in court.

Ask your Advocate or prosecutor about questions. Or, if you think your rights are violated. They’ll know what to do!
